Names of God

Bible Study Notes: El Shaddai & Adonai

This week we discussed how knowing God as the all-sufficient one helps us be obedient when we submit to Him as Lord. We had a great discussion. Here are the questions that got our discussion going.

ICE BREAKER

What is one thing you like to be in control  over in your life?

RECAP

Elohim: Creator: Our Purpose in life is to help other people know who God really is!  To give other people a correct opinion of God.

El Roi: The God Who Sees – but because He sees-we can let HIM be judge & we need to have integrity

El Elyon: God Most High-in His sovereignty, sometimes he allows Satan to mess with us

ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION

EL SHADDAI: Almighty God, the All Sufficient One

Read PG 38

PG 38: Shaddai describes power, but it is the power, not of violence, but of all-bountifulness.

Shaddai: BREASTED/POURER FORTH – God Almighty, the unconditional lover of my soul.

How do you respond to this?

Read PG36

How have you seen this ring true in your own life?

Read PG 37

What are some of the things you have look to for satisfaction?  Did these satisfy?

Has God revealed Himself to you as El Shaddai? What has that meant in your life?

In what area of your life do you NEED God to show up as El Shaddai?

ADONAI: LORD

READ PG 42

PG42: Lord is more than a word; it indicates a relationship.  The lordship of God means His total possession of me and my total submission to Him as Lord and Master.

PG 48: “With submission comes all we need for the task He puts before us.  Whatever it is, as Adonai He supplies what His servants need in order to perform their Master’s will.”

What does it mean for God to be Lord over our lives?

Read John 14:15

Jesus says:

If you love me you will obey my commands.

What stories in the Bible encourage you to obey despite the circumstances?

Last week we looked at Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego.  Can someone recap this?

Can someone recap the story of Daniel & the Lions Den? Daniel 6

In both of these stories, God saves them because of their obedience.  Does this always happen?

Does every story end with happily ever after?

Read Hebrews 11

What do you learn about obedience?

By faith we can be obedient because we know the Lord will pour out what we need to accomplish HIS WILL

Read James 1:19-27

What stands out to you about obedience?

Read Hebrew 12:1-12

What do you learn about obedience?

What is difficult about this passage?

What is encouraging about this passage regarding obedience?

Read I Corinthians 12:7-10

What do you learn about obedience?

How does this verse relate to God as Adonai & God as El Shaddai?

What is difficult about this passage?

What is encouraging about the passage?

Have you ever had to make an unpopular decision knowing it was the right one?

When God asks us to obey, He has the power to provide everything we need to survive obedience.

Why can we say this? Because even if we die, if He is Lord of our life, we will live forever with HIM in paradise.

He is Adonai, Lord of our lives, and El Shaddai, God Almighy, the All Sufficient One, the life giver.
