Wedding Wednesday

Wedding Wednesdays!

Thank you to all of you who commented on my marriage questionnaire a couple of weeks ago. Over the past few weeks and months, I’ve been brainstorming different topics that we could cover this summer that would intrigue, challenge and encourage each other.  And one of my many ideas was to do a new weekly segment called “Wedding Wednesday!”  I have a few other ideas up my sleeve, but for now, I wanted to start with this idea.

What will “Wedding Wednesday!” be? Who is “Wedding Wednesday!” for?  And how will “Wedding Wednesday!” benefit me?

If I read the first paragraph of this blog on someone’s site, I would definitely want to know the answer to these three questions, at the VERY MINIMUM.  So let’s get ’em answered.

First, “Wedding Wednesday!” (WW!) will be a weekly post each Wednesday featuring something about weddings and marriage.  The topics will vary each week as will the contributors.  My goal is to inform and inspire women in their marriages and in their pre-marriage years.

Who will benefit from WW!?  Singles and marrieds alike will benefit from WW!.  Our posts will deal with such topics as

-How can I prepare mentally, spiritually & emotionally for marriage if I’m not dating anyone?

-How can I be the wife I vowed to be when I’m not as in love with my husband as I was when I took my vows?

-Are there benefits to getting married later in life rather than right after high school or college?

-What does it look like to honor and cherish your spouse when better turns to worse?

-How can turn up the love dial in my marriage?

-I hear a lot of people say the first 1-5 years of marriage were rocky, but then they figured things out. Is there anything I can do before I get married to be able to enjoy the first few years of marriage?

-As a newlywed is there anything I can do now that will lay a foundation of love and respect for years and years to come?

-How can I enjoy marriage for 40 years and not just endure it?

-Does staying married mean I have a successful marriage?

How will WW! benefit me? If you are anything like me you have felt like a failure at some point in your romantic life.  Maybe you feel like a failure because you are 30 and still single. Maybe you feel like a failure because you are 25 and divorced.   Maybe you feel like a failure because your spouse prefers his friends or his favorite TV show over spending time with you.  There are a million reasons why you might feel like a failure.  But we can’t trust our feelings.  Feelings change.  We need to seek out the truth.

I want WW! to be a place where we come together to discover the truth about marriage.  The truth about love.  The truth about ourselves.  My desire is that you will walk away from each WW! post encouraged by the Word of God and the insights from other women who are on this journey called “life.”

We won’t give you all the answers, but will hopefully ask some great questions and give you the resources and encouragement needed to seek out the answers.

I believe that marriage the way God intended looks very different from the way most of us are living out our marriages.  The way we love our spouses should reflect the way Christ loved the church.  When people look at our marriages they should be drawn to Jesus.

I wish I could say that my marriage fits this requirement day in and day out, but it doesn’t.  And I’m guessing most of you are in the same boat.  I also believe that if you are single you hope that, if you do get married one day, your marriage will meet this standard.

So let’s stop living in mediocre marriages and let’s hold each other accountable for our actions.  Let’s be proactive about taking back our marriages and surrendering them to Christ.  Let’s encourage each other on the days that are difficult to hold on to our vows.  Let’s demonstrate to those who aren’t married, yet, what a blessing marriage can be.

Will you join me?  I hope you do!  I look forward to seeing you next Wednesday for our very first WW! post.
