Encouragement & Hope

Clutter! Help!

I wish you could see my house right now…actually I’m QUITE glad that you can’t. Smile.  We are in a major state of transistion in our house.  As we make preparations for the baby, we are moving things in and out like crazy!  In the past week we have moved a queen bed out and a crib and dresser in.  We have also moved out a couch, love seat and piano in exchange for a new couch, and two chairs.  The living room has an extra table, two extra chairs and two boxes of boots that need to be returned because they don’t fit.  Working during the week and traveling to speak on the weekends has led to stacks of mail on the counters and the table.  The bedroom has unpacked suitcases longing to be repacked for the upcoming weekend.  It would suffice to say, the house is a mess!

But tonight as I looked around the dissheveled living room, I thought to myself, “How often has my heart looked like this room?”

I feel like so many times on this journey called life, I have filled up my heart with “things” both good and not so good that left me feeling…cluttered.  Things like Bible study, one more church activitiy, volunteering on the weekend here or there, one more coffee date, one more workout, one more blog, just one more.  And yet, just like my living room, my life might be full, but at the same time seems like a huge mess.  Often I have filled up my heart with spiritual activity, but when I step back rather than seeing a deeper relationship with Jesus, I just see clutter!  So in these last few months before my life changes dramatically, I am making a commitment to declutter my heart!  That may mean that it is one more day before my boots get returned or that the extra chairs don’t make it to the storage unit until next weekend, but I know that I want to make this day count for the Lord.

What about you?  Do you ever struggle with the balance of doing things for God and spending time with God?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how you balance activity for God and relationship with God.  And for those of you who are moms, I’d love to hear how you stay balanced with a baby!  I could definitely use some advice there!

Thanks for joining me today!  I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!
