Happy Valentine’s Day!

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

And do not lean on your own understanding.

Who do you trust with your heart?  Today is Valentine’s Day.  A day where people all over the world will celebrate being in love.  Today sweethearts will exchange gifts and flowers and romantic cards, and something less tangible: our hearts.  For some, today will be an exciting day where the love given is returned with love!  These lovebirds have found “true love,” and in that true love, someone who will be careful with their hearts.  But sadly, this isn’t always the case. For some, today will be a reminder of a love that was a lost or a love you’ve not yet found.  No matter if you are head over heels in love and devoting every ounce of energy to celebrating this holiday with fervor, or if you are boycotting this crazy love fest, the good news is YOU ARE LOVED!

We all have something to celebrate today.  We can celebrate that God loves us and that we can trust Him with our hearts.  We live in a society that places little value on protecting our hearts.  But Proverbs 4:23 says, “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.”  It can be difficult to know how to protect our hearts and who to share our most prized possession with. We are often tempted to give our hearts away to the first smooth talking guy around.  Some of us understand the heartache that comes from trusting our heart to the wrong person.   Some of us know this pain so deeply that we can’t imagine trusting anyone with our hearts, not even a spouse.  But there is One who can be trusted!

God, THE GOD who made you, can be trusted!  He can be trusted with all your heart!  Isn’t this great news?  Even if your heart has been shattered, you can trust him with the broken shards.  He is the business of picking up the pieces and putting them back together in a way that more wonderful and beautiful than you could ever imagine!  God loves us exactly the way you are.  You don’t have to try to win His love with words or actions or silly gifts.  You don’t have to clean up your act before you approach His throne.  He created you, and He loves you just as you are.  You can have hope knowing your trust in Him will not be in vain.  He is faithful day in and day out.  He loves you and wants the very best for you!  He has a plan and a hope and a future for you. (Jer. 29:11)  He will walk with you through the hard times, and He will celebrate the good times with you as well!  He is your biggest fan!  He has given you the greatest Valentine’s Day gift ever: life thru His Son, Jesus!  He is worthy to be trusted with all of your heart.  He will not harm it or take it for granted.  He created your heart, and He knows best how to take care of it.

If you leave your house today you are guaranteed to be bombarded with red and pink hearts EVERYWHERE.  Let those cheesy hearts be a reminder to you, that you are loved, and that there is someone who loves you PERFECTLY!  Someone who can be trusted with all of your heart!  Take a few minutes today to celebrate this. If there are areas of your heart you haven’t yet entrusted to the One who loves you, then spend sometime today committing those areas to Him.  You will never regret trusting the Lord with ALL your heart.
